About Rentern

Rentern is a start-up project Rentern bridges the gap between students and small businesses by creating meaningful, short-term collaborations. Our platform helps small businesses gain affordable project support while giving students real-world experience that builds their careers.

My Story — Why I Started Rentern

My name is Robert Dennis, and Rentern was born from my own journey of trial, failure, and growth. Before going to college, I tried to start multiple companies on my own. I had big ideas and the drive to execute them — but I lacked the business knowledge and experience needed to turn those ideas into sustainable success. Each failure taught me something new, but also revealed a bigger issue: there was no bridge between learning and doing.

Later, when I began applying for jobs, I faced another obstacle — my lack of real-world experience. I knew I had potential, but employers were looking for people who already had a proven track record. It felt like a cycle that many students and young entrepreneurs face: you can’t get experience without opportunity, and you can’t get opportunity without experience.

That’s why I created Rentern. It’s a platform designed to give both students and small businesses what I wish I had at both stages of my life — a place to learn, collaborate, and grow through hands-on experience. With Rentern, students can build portfolios that prove their skills, and small businesses can access affordable, driven talent to help them grow.

Our Mission

Rentern exists to empower growth on both sides — helping students gain experience that opens doors, while giving small businesses the support they need to take their next step forward.

We believe that by connecting eager learners with businesses that need help, we can create a win-win situation that drives innovation, learning, and success for all involved.

How It Works

Example Projects on Rentern

Here are some examples of real-world projects small businesses could post — and the kind of experience students can gain while building their portfolios.

Website Redesign

Local businesses seeking to modernize their websites — students can improve user experience and mobile compatibility.

Social Media Strategy

Help a startup develop and schedule social media content to grow engagement and brand awareness.

Data Visualization Dashboard

Businesses share their sales or marketing data, and students create interactive dashboards using Python or Tableau to assist in data-driven decisions.

Market Research Report

Students collect and analyze market trends to help businesses make informed decisions before launching new products.

Brand Logo Design

This project helps Creative students assist startups and small businesses by designing new logos or refreshing existing brand visuals by applying their graphic design skills, experiment with color and typography, and deliver branding materials that reflect each company’s unique identity and goals.

Create Customer or Inventory Databases

Many small businesses still use spreadsheets or paper to track customers and products. This project lets students build a simple database using tools like SQLite, Excel, or Google Sheets — and even connects it to a small web app or dashboard.
